YouTube has been in the live streaming business for various important events like presidential campaigns, concerts etc. and now it's announced that it's launched a whole page dedicated to live streaming, www.youtube.com/live. It's opening up this service to several select partners. Users who visit this page can find out which events are streaming, add events to their calendars and subscribe to channels which will notify them of events.  What the YouTube Live page will look like YouTube will roll out the beta program to the select partners in good standing soon. The live streams will also have a chat module so users can ask questions and give feedback. Some partners who could be live streaming soon are Stanford University, Rutgers University, certain musicians and certain gaming channels. The first live stream will be The DigiTour: Live from Google HQ which features popular YouTube musicians. YouTube has already livestreamed the Indian Premier League cricket matches and is rumoured to be adding more leagues to its collection, therefore sports will be an important part of this page. Product Marketing Manager Chris Hamilton says that it will be interesting to see how organizations use YouTube Live to leverage their marketing. In addition, it will be an interesting shift for YouTube, going from user generated video to professional videos. We can't wait to try it out. |
