With the recent launch of the iPhone 4 for a hefty sum, the mid-ranged consumer market was a bit disheartened. This was especially due to the fact that most droids at the price range of Rs 15,000 provide better than average specs and hardware. Now it seems like Apple wants to get into the mid-ranged market segment. The company has now made available, the 8 GB variant of the iPhone 3GS, pricing it at a not-so-hefty Rs 19,990. When you consider the specs of the device, you might just back up a bit, but the cheapest iOS handset deserves a look at the least.

For Rs 19,990 (which according to us is still a tad overpriced) you could get the Google Nexus S dubbed as the Royal Droid, but it is a matter of personal preference. The device comes unlocked, so you have the freedom to use it with any SIM card you want to.

The iPhone 3GS Comes In Two Colours

The iPhone 3GS comes with a 3.5" capacitive display with pixel dimensions of 320x480, a 3.15 MP camera, a 600 MHz processor, and 8 GB of internal storage without an expandable memory card slot. In terms of connectivity, the handset is capable of reaching speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on 3G HSDPA. It runs on iOS 4.3 out of the box, with support for iOS 5 when it is launched in a couple of months from now.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to what you want in a handset. If you want a device which can multitask and do a lot more, you wouldn't consider the 3GS. But if you are looking at a decent battery life and a whole set of features such as access to apps from Apple's App Store, which only Apple can offer, this is the cheapest deal for you. Nevertheless, considering the fact that the 3GS is a 2 year old device (originally launched in 2009) you shouldn't be surprised with the specs. The device is available in select stores across the country.
In a move that has taken everyone by surprise, Apple has launched the iPad 2 in India. Compared to the first generation iPad, which was launched nine months after its US launch, the iPad 2 lands in India just over a month after the US launch. India isn't the only country getting it. The iPad 2 is being launched in 12 countries. Japan would be getting it first on April 28 whereas India, Hong Kong, Israel, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and UAE will be getting it on April 29. Additionally, China is also expected to get the iPad 2, but it will have to wait till May 6.

Now you must be waiting for the price. Contrary to its US counterpart, iPad 2 in India is slightly more expensive than the model it replaces. The original iPad was launched at Rs. 27,900 and was later dropped to Rs. 24,500. The iPad 2 starts at Rs. 29,500 and goes all the way up to Rs. 46,900.

The following are the prices of all the models. They include VAT and are M.R.P.

16GB Wi-Fi: Rs. 29,500
32G Wi-Fi: Rs. 34,500
64GB Wi-Fi: Rs. 39,500
16GB 3G + Wi-Fi: Rs. 36,900
32GB 3G + Wi-Fi: Rs. 41,900
64GB 3G + Wi-Fi: Rs. 46,900

Netgear N750
Believe it or not, blazing-fast WiFi routers don't have to look like anti-aircraft weapons. The new flagship device from Netgear, the N750, keeps its array of antennae stashed out of sight. Even without a gaudy design, this dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n router can hit speeds of 450Mbps over the 5GHz band and 300Mbps at 2.4Ghz, for an "aggregate combined data rate" of 750Mbps. Don't get too excited though, all that means is you can connect one device in either band without dragging down the transfer rate of the other -- you're still bound by the 450Mbps speed limit. The N750 also includes a ReadySHARE USB port for network storage, parental controls, and guest access -- not bad for $150, eh?

MTS has launched the HTC Pulse in India, otherwise known as the HTC Droid Eris in the US. It has a 3.2-inch, 320 x 480 resolution touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, 3G, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. The only bad thing about the phone is that it runs on a 528MHz processor and Android 2.1. The phone will work on MTS s 3G CDMA network in India and from what we can tell is locked to the carrier.

MTS is offering five ways to purchase the phones, the best one being paying a monthly rent of Rs 1,500 and getting the handset for free and free 1500 minutes (local and national), 1500 SMS and 1500MB of data download every month. You also have the option of buying the phone on credit card through EMI or paying Rs. 16,000 upfront for the handset and then choosing anyone of their tariff plans.

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II has been made even more desirable.
